Dear Diary, I’ve Learned to Trust Actions, Not Words

When I say I judge people by their actions, I mean it with my whole heart.

It’s something life has taught me over and over again: anyone can talk — say sweet things, make warm promises like “I’ll always be there,” or “We’ll do this together,” or “You can count on me.”
But only a few actually show up when it truly matters.

And today, I was reminded of this yet again.

Trust me when I say this—I don’t even keep expectations from outsiders. I’m an introvert. I like my circle small, filled with only the people I feel safe with—the ones I can truly trust. But life has its own way of changing things.

When you enter new phases, you meet new people. You try to build something meaningful with them, let them in even a little. And then, just when you start to feel maybe they could be different, life reminds you—actions speak louder than sweet talk and samosa-sharing.

Some are only there for convenience, or out of formality.

Someone once said, “We’ll do this together,” and I—like a hopeful Bollywood side character—believed them. I thought, “Arrey waah, maybe this time it’s real. Maybe I can trust again without needing a backup plan and emotional snacks.”
Because hope? That silly little thing refuses to retire.
It felt comforting. Exciting, even. Like, for once, I wouldn’t have to walk alone.

But now? They’re making plans… quietly, without me. As if those promises—“We’ll do this together”—were just filler lines in a conversation. And yes, it stings. But they were the ones handing me the bricks, laying the foundation of something they never meant to build.

And in that moment, a voice inside whispers, You won’t trust them again.—Not out of spite. Just… because you’ve learned and been there before. And this? This is your reminder that some lessons the universe teaches you are for life—not just for certain situations.

Be yourself. Protect your peace. Keep your energy sacred.

Honestly, I wasn’t even expecting much—life and past experiences had already trained me well.
But still, when people look you in the eye and say things like, “You can be yourself with us,” or “We’re here for you,”—when they act close, warm, and safe—it hits differently when they suddenly pull away.

It doesn’t feel like a dramatic betrayal.
It feels like a slow, silent truth pressing down on your chest. A harsh reality.

And the ironic part? You never even asked them for big promises.
Deep down, you knew—not everyone walks their talk. You’ve always known that actions matter more than sugarcoated words.

And it’s okay. Truly, it is. I’ve come out stronger from every experience life has thrown at me. And this will be no different. I’ll hold onto my peace. I’ll trust my instincts even more. And I’ll move forward—not with anger, but with clarity.

This truth I wear — like armor, like light,
I watch their actions, not words dressed in white.
Scars don’t make me bitter, they make me wise,
For only storms teach the soul how to rise.

So here’s the lesson, simple and true:
Not all who promise will walk with you.
But your peace? That’s yours to guard and keep.
Even soft hearts learn how to walk deep.

And if you’ve felt this too — the sting of words that meant nothing, the silence where loyalty should’ve been — trust me, you’re not alone.
I see you. I feel you. I’ve cried into my hot chocolate too.

There are so many of us out here—introverts, overthinkers, deep feelers—quietly learning to trust our gut over glittery promises, grand gestures, and emotionally manipulative WhatsApp forwards.

Just a reminder: You were never too much. You were simply too real for those not ready to meet you there—unfiltered, whole, and honest.

📝 Ever felt the same? I’d love to hear your story. Drop it in the comments—let’s create a space where we can be real, raw, and fully human. No filters, just feelings or just sip hot chocolate in silence—together.

With a healing heart,
Shree 🌙
